Calligrapher – IRAN

Mahya TolouKian is a painter, calligrapher, and university professor who pictures the visual power of Persian font in his artworks. This artist believes all type of Persian calligraphy, especially Nastalique and Shekasteh-Nastalique, is the best way to create new forms due to their structure which allows us to stretch the words. Mahya would forget about principles while writing in order to be able to find a new style.

This artist pays attention to details to show contemporary man’s busy mind in addition to picturing the originality of Persian art and painting. Using various colors, Mahya tries to reach abstraction, like an abstract painting, and communicate with his audience beyond letters readability and their applications. In another hand, he tries to link purity of Persian traditional art with contemporary art in a modern and private atmosphere.
